Can I travel across Canada with limited supplies?

So I've been thinking about doing this thing where I pack a tent/knife/camera/some additional supplies like maybe pots to boil water and filter it and what not and go across Canada for a year or so and live by myself while traveling. Is it possible, could I get in trouble by the police for doing something like this? I wanna see polar bears! (from afar) and just so you know I am Canadian so I am no immigrant :P
