Seriously, is the LG Incite as bad as people say it is?

i've been stuck on the incite and a few htc phones for the longest! i really like the looks of the incite, and it's cheaper than most smart phones. i've heard that it's slow, and people have trouble sending and receiving texts. i can just get a software update those kind of problems, right? i've also heard that there's nothing wrong with the phone at all. i talked to an att rep today, and he lied about a few things and said that the incite doesnt support 3G. he also said that it has a ton of problems and that if i were to get it, i would need to pay an extra $30 a month to use it as a PDA. how would i use it as a PDA without using the phone normally??? i will be texting more than talking, so are there any issues with sending and receiving messages?
